I constructed this presentation for teachers in my district when we were starting to learn about 3D standards and assessment. Included is basic information about the transition of question types and DOK levels from the Science MCA-III to the MCA -IV. The new MCA-IV assesses the 2019 Minnesota Science Standards, which integrate phenomena with the science and engineering practices, the crosscutting concepts, and the disciplinary core ideas. The slideshow also includes two book ideas to look at the standard about lunar phases, eclipses and seasons from the perspective of American Indian tribes as well as the Islamic tradition of Ramadan.Â
This was a slideshow I co-presented with a colleague at the 2023 MnCOSE. We showed examples of how we facilitated a team of teachers who created an inclusive scientist project based on the "I Am a Scientist" website. Then we showed how our students engaged with the science and engineering practices as part of a phenomena-based storyline. Finally, we shared some tips we had learned about how to do quick online text translations and text leveling to help make them more accessible to all learners.
